Share Your Story
The best CTO content comes from real experience. Write about the decisions you actually made, the systems you actually built, and the lessons you learned along the way.
We are building a library of practical wisdom for technology leaders. Your story — the one you tell over coffee to a fellow CTO — is exactly what this community needs.
What We Publish
We look for articles grounded in real experience. If you have been through it, others can learn from it.
Real Decision Case Studies
Walk readers through a significant technical decision. "We chose X over Y because..." — including the constraints, trade-offs, and what happened next.
Architecture Post-Mortems
Honest retrospectives on system designs that worked, failed, or evolved. What would you do differently with hindsight?
Team Scaling Stories
How you grew from 5 to 50 engineers, restructured teams, or navigated a major organizational change.
Vendor Evaluation Frameworks
Your process for evaluating and selecting tools, platforms, or services. Include criteria, finalists, and the reasoning behind your choice.
Lessons Learned from Incidents
What a production outage, security breach, or critical failure taught you about building resilient systems and teams.
Why Contribute
Writing for The Art of CTO is more than publishing an article. It is joining a community of leaders who share what they know.
A Permanent, Credited Home For It
Your piece gets its own URL, your byline, and a place in a library organised for technology leaders rather than a feed that buries it in a week. It goes out through the RSS feeds and the weekly newsletter.
Build Your Personal Brand
The audience here is small and specific — technology leaders arriving from search, referrals and AI assistants — which is the audience worth being read by. Published contributions are indexed and citable.
Edited By A Person, Not A Queue
There is no editorial team and no submission backlog: one person reads every pitch and edits every piece. Formatting, structured data and the hero image are handled for you, so you write the argument and nothing else.
Backlink to Your Company
Every published article includes your byline, bio, and a link to your company or personal site. Drive qualified traffic from an engaged technical audience.
Submission Guidelines
Strong submissions share a few common traits. Here is what we look for.
- ✓1,500 to 3,000 words in length
- ✓Based on real experience, not generic advice
- ✓Includes specific numbers, timelines, and outcomes
- ✓Original content not published elsewhere
- ✓Written in first person or team perspective
- ✓Focuses on the "why" behind decisions, not just the "what"
How It Works
From pitch to publication in three steps.
Submit Your Pitch
Send an email to hello@theartofcto.com with the subject line "Contribution: [Your Topic]". Include a brief outline of your article, the key takeaway for readers, and a sentence about your background.
Editorial Review
We review every pitch personally and respond within 5 business days. If your topic is a fit, we will share feedback on angle, scope, and audience expectations before you start writing.
Publish with Your Byline
Once the draft is finalised with the editor, it is published with your full byline, bio, photo, and company link. You get a permanent piece on a platform built for CTOs.
