AI-assisted development is entering a new phase: it’s no longer a “tool choice” for individual engineers, it’s an organizational capability with real cost, reliability, and security implications. The collision of these two shifts is where CTOs will feel the most pressure in 2026.
On the AI side, the conversation is moving past novelty and into governance. Faster iteration increases the blast radius of mistakes unless you add compensating controls. And “lean ops” infrastructure can shift cost curves in surprising ways (e.g., per-request pricing, storage backends, cross-region data movement), especially when AI-generated code increases service sprawl.
